Time to Reflect.

In the spring of 2005, I knew my life had to change!
I had stepped away from university volleyball, which had been my love and passion since I could remember. Despite being busy finishing university, I recognized there was a massive void to fill in the absence of varsity sports. Without the goal of being an elite player, I had not only lost my drive to train, but also my precious muscle I had worked so hard to develop.

I have been lifting weights seriously since age 13. I remember training on a 4 day split program in grade 9, lifting heavy and developing a fascination for sports nutrition. Healthy or not at such a young age, I caught “the bug” and continued bodybuilding through my entire volleyball career. When the attached before photo was taken, I realized how much I missed training and vowed to transform myself over the course of that year. I wanted to not only improve myself physically, but also psychologically and emotionally. This before photo speaks volumes about my health status at the time. Stress, pressure and the challenges of the previous two years had left a lost facial expression on top of a weak frame that was a mere fraction of what it had previously been.

I knew reintegrating proper exercise and nutrition would be a healthy change, however, I was unaware that I was tapping into the greatest passion in my life that would bring to fruition a rewarding career as a Fitness Professional.

Almost six years later, I am thankful to have been published in the magazines I grew up reading while working with great photographers who have taught me fitness modeling is a skill that has to be practiced. My training regime is specifically tailored to allow myself to have a marketable physique in order to continue being a fitness model. However, being a fitness model is only one aspect of my career. I am a Fitness Professional, dedicated to helping each and every client experience the joy that can be found through physical activity and healthy eating.

I choose this background image because my facial expression exemplifies the non-physical changes that are inevitable when someone chooses to create positive change through exercise. I definitely do not have to fake the smiles. All I want to do is yell and laugh in the studio I am so thankful to be doing what I love! One thing is for sure, I will never take my career or my health for granted. My ultimate goal is longevity and maintaining myself without injury for years to come. I am confident that staying 100% drug free, collaborating with other great Professionals and constantly studying the science is the recipe for success that will achieve this goal. To my peers who constantly motivate me to be better and collaborate with me to discuss the science, thank you!

Here’s to a great year in 2010 and looking forward to checking off a symbolic item from my fitness “bucket list” in 2011! I wonder what that is??

Time to Reflect.

My "before and after". I was self conscious to post it, but hopefully it will show someone who is hesitant that change is possible!

Nothing But Natural!

July 4, 2010  |  Health  |  Comments  |

I was accused of using anabolic drugs today.

Let me make it clear, I have never used any anabolic substance in my entire career and am a very proud 100% DRUG FREE athlete!

This is not the first time I have been accused and I’m sure it will not be the last. I must take it as a complement that relentless hard work can create results that to some, appear unobtainable naturally. Nathane, Rob, Obi, Max, David, James, Tyler and others flourishing in the fitness industry are additional proof that a drug free, marketable image is possible! As fitness professionals, this requires complete dedication and a genuine passion to continually educate ourselves to ensure we maintain our bodies while also helping others improve their health.

No matter what career path someone chooses, we all brand ourselves within our respective industries to create an “image” for ourselves. The reality of fitness & bodybuilding is your image and how others perceive you is often a reflection of being natural or drug assisted. To maintain my level of conditioning and remain “photo ready” all year round I must eat and train to perfection. The foundation of my career is being drug free and I’m proud to have not given in to pressures to develop an image I currently do not have. I’m comfortable with who I am and know that clean eating and smart training will maintain the body I need to be successful.

From day one I have chosen the natural path because in my heart I truly believe in it and want to be a role-model that encourages health, wellness and longevity. For those of you who know me personally, you will already know that this belief has led me to integrate my services as a fitness professional into health care.

In good health,

Aric Sudicky

I may have dipped just under 2% body fat for this one. Hard work and perfect nutrition always does the trick. No drugs necessary.

Battle of the Beach Bod’s 2: This Time Its Science!

January 6, 2010  |  Fitness  |  Comments  |

Medpoint Healthcare Centre and Aric Sudicky have teamed up to conduct the new, improved version of “Battle of the Beach Bod’s” organized with CJBK Radio in London, Ontario.  Both afternoon show hosts (Alan & Mike) will undergo a full medical evaluation (including blood work) before beginning their fitness regimes. The catch, only one host (Alan) will be working under Aric’s supervision.  The winner will be determined based on body composition changes as well as more “health” related factors such as improvements in identified blood chemistry issues and VO2Max approximation.

Aric will air live Tuesday afternoons at 4:40pm to provide listeners with workout tips and Al’s training update for the week!

Here is my appearance from Dec 31st.

Summer food, rose colored fish steak in a wine marinade“You are what you eat” is the oldest phrase in the book and it’s true! I am more reliant than ever on sound nutrition to stay lean, fueled and ready for each opportunity that presents itself.
There was a time when I assumed it was normal to gain large amounts of weight between photo shoots because it was the standard in the fitness industry.  It seemed impossible to stay 2-4% body fat for months at a time while still having the energy to work, train, recover and NATURALLY develop muscle groups identified as weak points.  The answer was always there staring at me.  All you have to do is completely and utterly commit yourself to accomplishing your goals.
You of course also have to know how to apply your passion, which is why you must also have a relentless thirst for the researched, scholarly information that will bring you to the “Promised Land”.  It’s out there, hidden in hundreds of journals articles and literature reviews that have been buried under the mass of bodybuilding websites on the Internet.

Aric-Sudicky-Web-07087Aric-Sudicky-Web-07087For years, fitness, health and medicine have been major passions in my life that have guided me in all of my endeavours.  Being able to fully integrate my work as a fitness professional with the practice of medicine has enabled me to take personal training to the next level.
Never before have clients been able to receive full medical testing and clearance as the critical initial phase of their new active lifestyle.  Not only does this ensure each client’s health and safety, it also provides invaluable data that can be used for prescribing multi-phased nutrition and exercise programs.
Just like a physician, as fitness professionals we must uphold a certain standard of care.  By working directly with health care practitioners, personal training has just raised the bar in the city of London.
